MEANING: The Triskelion in the center of the Pre-Christian Celtic Wheel Cross stands for the aspects of the Threefold Goddess; Maiden, Mother, Crone. As the ancient Celts never wrote anything down, there are various meanings attributed to the Wheel Cross. The Celtic Druids worshipped both the sun and the moon. The circle is often used to represent the moon and the cross, the sun. The circle signifies infinity...no beginning and no end. The four arms extend out from a distinctive center point. This can be interpreted as: The balance and harmony between male and female... The four corners of the earth from one source... The eternal cycle of the four seasons... The eternal connection of all things in the Heavens and the Earth... ...while the arms themselves can have the different meanings of... The Four Elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water... The Four Directions of the Compass...North, South, East and West (much like the Native American Medicine Wheel) The Four Parts of Man...Mind, Soul, Heart and Body
THE CARVING: My Carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each piece is finished with a blend of clear oils that brings out the natural color of the wood. For more information on the process of creation, please see my profile.
SIZE: One of the pictures has the piece on a quilting board, lined up on the 1 inch marks. So subtract 1 inch from the height and width for the stock size. Measurements may vary slightly from piece to piece.
