MEANING: Failte is Irish Gaelic for Welcome and appears in the phrase “Cead mile failte” (a hundred thousand welcomes) as well as the similar Scottish Gaelic phrase “ceud mìle fàilte “ and the Manx “keead milley failt”. Irish legends about the shamrock include a variety of mystic powers. The leaves of the shamrock are said to stand on end to warn of an approaching storm. The shamrock is claimed to be a remedy against the sting of scorpions and the bite of snakes. Although it is not the official symbol of Ireland (an honor reserved for the harp), the shamrock is associated with Ireland more than any other emblem. Druids considered the impressive vitality of the shamrock to be a sign of sacredness & the shamrock came to represent life itself. This will make a wonderful welcome sign or housewarming gift for an Irish home or establishment.

THE CARVING: My Carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each piece is finished with a blend of clear oils that brings out the natural color of the wood. For more information on the process of creation, please see my profile.

SIZE: One picture has the piece on a quilting board, lined up on the 1 inch marks. So subtract 1 inch from the height and width for the stock size. Measurements may vary slightly from piece to piece.
