MEANING: One of the eight buddhist treasures, it has been described as representing the interweaving of the Spiritual path, the flowing of Time and Movement within That Which Is Eternal. All existence, the Pan Chang Knot says, is bound by time and change, yet rests serenely within the Divine and Eternal.

A few interpretations of the symbol are:

  • The Endless knot iconography symbolized the endless cycle of suffering or birth, death and rebirth within Tibetan Buddhism.
  • The intertwining of wisdom and compassion.
  • Interplay and interaction of the opposing forces in the dualistic world of manifestation (the yin and yang of existence), leading to their union, and ultimately to harmony in the universe.
  • A symbol of balance and harmony.
  • Since the knot has no beginning or end it also symbolizes the infinite wisdom of the Buddha.

Known by the Chinese as the Mystic knot, it is one of the most often used symbols in feng shui. As a combination of 6 times the infinity symbol, this knot represents a happy and long life full of good fortune. Apart from being used to encourage longevity and prosperity, it is also commonly used as a symbol of everlasting love. Mystic knot that is hung in the Southwest of your living room brings harmony and unity among family members. Displaying this symbol in the Southwest corner of your bedroom will enhance the relationship of the couple. Using this symbol in the Southwest of the office brings loyalty and harmony among the employer and employees.

SIZE: (Displayed Vertically)

  • Standard: 11.5 inches Tall X 9 inches Wide
  • Miniature: 7 inches Tall X 5.5 inches Wide
  • Large-Custom Made: 15 inches Tall X 11 inches Wide

THE CARVING: Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings.  Each carving begins as a 1 X 12 inch cedar board.  While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders etc.), we use no laser’s, CNC machines or computer operated cutting machines.  All work is done with our hands and eyes…

We cut the 2 dimensional blanks with scroll and jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools and disc grinders. The 80 grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks and gouges from the carving tools, and finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 then 220 grit finishes the smoothing and polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain and the color.
