MEANING: There are 3 aspects to this symbol as it is carved here.

The first aspect deals with the idea of Motion, the three spirals are arranged in a manner that make the symbol appear to be in constant forward motion.  This gives the symbol the concept of: action, cycles, progress, revolution, competition, moving forward.

The second component is the number of spirals.  Three is a significant number throughout different eras, cultures, mythos, etc.  Just a few of this meanings are: Past Present, Future; Mind, Body, Spirit; Father, Son, Holy Ghost; Mother, Father, Child; Life, Death, Rebirth; Creation, Preservation, Destruction.  There are more meanings, so it is your perspective as to the meaning of the triad.

The outer ring gives us the third component.  Encircling a symbol puts it into a relationship or adds the aspect of eternity.

The triskele is found among Celtic artifacts dating back to the beginning of the Iron Age. To the early Celts, this symbol expressed the cyclical relationship of our metaphorical journey through life, death and rebirth.

THE CARVING: Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings.  Each carving begins as a 1 X 12 inch cedar board.  While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders etc.), we use no laser’s, CNC machines or computer operated cutting machines.  All work is done with our hands and eyes…

We cut the 2 dimensional blanks with scroll and jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools and disc grinders. The 80 grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks and gouges from the carving tools, and finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 then 220 grit finishes the smoothing and polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain and the color.
