MEANING: The design for this wood carving is adapted from a Celtic wedding band knot. The Panel consist of one line repeating the knot 4 times. In Celtic lore, a knot from one line evokes the qualities of eternity and endless, the number four is often viewed as representing the seasons. Endless devotion thru the seasons of your relationship is conveyed in this Matrimonial Panel.

A wonderful wedding or anniversary gift.

This listing includes size variations. The standard carving with an 10.75 inch by 14 Inches and the miniature is 6 Inches by 7.75 Inches.

THE CARVING:

Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings.  Each carving begins as a 1 X 12 inch cedar board.  While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders etc.), we use no laser’s, CNC machines or computer operated cutting machines.  All work is done with our hands and eyes…

We cut the 2 dimensional blanks with scroll and jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools and disc grinders. The 80 grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks and gouges from the carving tools, and finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 then 220 grit finishes the smoothing and polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain and the color.

    Beautiful Work!

Posted by Holly Early on Nov 8th 2020

For years, I’ve admired Signs of Spirit’s display at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, and it was my absolute joy to support them during the challenges of 2020. The web photos don’t do justice to the beauty of their work, and I am so pleased with my order. I can’t wait to give it as a gift to my better half!
