MEANING: The Triple Spiral is one of the oldest symbols of devotion to the Three Aspects of the Goddess. Newgrange is a megalithic mound in North-East Ireland built around 3200 B.C. The kerbstone carved with this symbol is at the entrance of the tomb. Megalithic mounds such as Newgrange entered Irish mythology as sídhe or fairy mounds. Newgrange was said to be the home of Oenghus, the god of love. The passage and chamber of Newgrange are illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. A shaft of light enters through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates the passage to light up the chamber. This event lasts for 17 minutes at dawn on the Winter Solstice and for a few mornings before and after solstice. THE CARVING: My Carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each piece is finished with a blend of clear oils that brings out the natural color of the wood. For more information on the process of creation, please see my profile. SIZE: The last picture has the piece on a quilting board. Measurements may vary slightly from piece to piece. Please Convo for Shipping outside of the U.S.
