MEANING: This is a variation of the Irish Love Knot. This symbol is a heart shape entwined with a Trinity Knot, composed of one line with no beginning or end, which can represent Eternal Love or Eternal Love of the Great Mystery. The Trinity knot is the most basic Triquetra. Simply three arcs; originally it is believed that to the early Celtics, the three arcs represent the three aspects of the ancient Celtic Goddess; Maiden, Mother, Crone. Later, as Christianity spread, the three arcs were adapted to the Christian trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This listing includes size variations. The standard carving is approximately 10.5 by 10.5 inches and the miniature is half size of 5.25 inches. If you require different sizes, we can accommodate you with limitations. The Standard size is as large as we can get from one board, anything from 11 inches down to 6 inches would fall under the standard size. On the Miniature variation, the smallest we can go is based on about a 4-inch diameter (any smaller and the little holes are too little).

THE CARVING:

Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings.  Each carving begins as a 1 X 12-inch cedar board.  While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders, etc.), we use no lasers, CNC machines or computer-operated cutting machines.  All work is done with our hands and eyes…

We cut the 2-dimensional blanks with scroll and jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with a jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools and disc grinders. The 80-grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks and gouges from the carving tools, and finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 and then 220 grit finishes the smoothing and polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain and the color.
