MEANING: This carving expresses the Protective, Nurturing, and Unconditional Nature of a Mother’s Love.

This makes a wonderful gift for Mother's day, or a gesture of thankfulness and gratitude to anyone who has given you support and encouragement.

THE WOOD CARVING: My Carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each piece is finished with a blend of clear oils that brings out the natural color of the wood. For more information on the process of creation, please see my profile.

SIZE: The last picture has the piece on a quilting board, lined up on the 1 inch marks. So subtract 1 inch from the height and width for the stock size. Measurements may vary slightly from piece to piece.

AND... A BIT OF STORY BEHIND THIS DESIGN:

From Katrina: When Coop and I were first together, I was learning the meanings of his carvings and was surprised he had nothing representing the relationship of Mother and Child. I had seen a sculpture in a New Age store (cannot remember the artist unfortunately) but it was a woman sitting cross-legged with a child in her lap. While at the North Texas Irish Festival, I picked up a business card that had this symbol atop a circle. I immediately saw the mother holding her child in her lap. I excitedly insisted Coop carve this...and he did. What he saw while carving was the child within the womb of the mother. It just goes to show you the meaning of the knot is in the eye of the beholder! In trying to promote on-line business, I began a "What We Do" board on Pinterest. The Mother and Child Knot when viral! But...it was 98% tattoo boards! Time passes and we do get a few more orders before Mother's Day, so I'm happy. Then one day at Scarborough Renaissance Faire a woman comes up to Cooper, shows him her tattoo (it happens ALL the time!), that she found on Pinterest and asks if he can do it! He gleefully runs to the display and brings it to her, and she realizes it was the picture of our wood carving she had used! Ha! Everything comes back around! Now days, you don't find our picture of the Mother and Child knot on Pinterest as much, it is more pictures of tattoos...of our wood carving... And now, I'm finding Jewelers that have started doing this too...which is great because I had a bunch of inquiries if we could do it out of gold or silver...Damnit Jim, we're wood carvers, not goldsmiths!
